as white in a tournament game, but had
played against it often as black. I
chose this opening because I thought
Skaggs probably would not know this line,
and if he did he wouldn't know how to
play against it as well as against the
open Sicilian. Also, I knew that he is
an attacking player, so I tried to enter
positional lines.

4. cd: d5?! Dubious. After 5. e5 white has a clear
edge in a "tensionless" French. 4. ...
d6 is better, holding the fourth rank.

the option of playing Qg4 where
favorable, after black moves his bishop
