Game Review: Resident Evil Zero

Now, I will admit that Resident Evil 4 took me for a loop, and made me think that the series would go in a different direction. When I first picked this game up, I thought it was a futile attempt to restore the old style of game play that had brought the Resident Evil series to the top with a poor story line. How wrong I was..

As a prequel to the original, the one that started it all, it had to answer a lot of questions. How did the infection begin? How did the Umbrella Corporation first come into being? What is the origin of the T-virus? It did all that and more, becoming just as important to the original plot line as any of its predecessors.

There are no crates to hold your items, you just leave them on the floor for later pick-up. New and old creatures appear to challenge you, and at times you are forced to spend valuable bullets just to get breathing room. There is no choice in the beginning, you play as both the male, Billy Coen, a convict, and the well known Rebecca Chambers at once. Switching between the two in mid-play, sometimes using both at once to shoot at a single enemy, this game brings everything you could hope for and more from a survival horror game. Especially the feeling that you need to be cautious, yet frantic.

This game can only be described one way .. perfect.
